Othneil Lawrence edged out Lucius Thomas to win the celebrity cook-off at the Bakers Fiesta at Addison Park in Brown's Town recently, drawing comments about the next general election.

Lawrence prepared Tastee Cheese breaded chicken breast, while Thomas prepared two dishes - cauliflower cheese macaroni vegetable, and plantain and cheese.

York Castle Principal Raymond Treasure was third, with his mango cheddar muffins. Karlene Segree of the Ministry of Education, region three, with her cheesy chicken breast with cheesy yam; and Irie FM's Lana-Gaye Franklyn, with macaroni and cheese baked dip, also participated.

In the high school bake-off, Aabuthnott Gallimore won with their summer's hot strawberry mango layer cake, ahead of last year's winners, Brown's Town, with their Jamaica island a bum cake.

York Castle, with their piña colada cake, and St Hilda's spontaneous basket cake finished third and fourth respectively.

The schools were judged in seven categories with originality/creativity and flavour accounting for most of the points. The fun-filled day, postponed from a week earlier due to rain, was still affected by muddy conditions underfoot, following early afternoon showers.

But the crowd turned out to support the event, and was later entertained by several popular dancehall artistes.
