The GYMKHANA Limited, the Jamaican affiliate of the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) which forms part of the Guardsman Group of companies, is noted for its leadership in the local fitness industry. The fitness club, now in its eighth year, has once again demonstrated industry leadership and its commitment to its motto 'Total Fitness with a Difference'.

In an email interview with Mrs Sheila Benjamin McNeill, director of the group and managing director of Gymkhana, she indicated that the company, recognising the financial challenges being faced by many in the society, is placing emphasis on corporate and group memberships. "This new strategy is being pursued in an effort to enhance the affordability of Gymkhana's high-end offerings," stated McNeill. She added that as an example, the company had introduced a new one-year membership payment scheme in its Montego Bay location. The Generate Your Membership Plan (GYM Plan), was rolled out to coincide with the gym's August Fitness Check Month and its third anniversary in the island's tourism capital.

After payment of an initial deposit for the first 90-days of membership, the GYM plan guarantees access to the cutting-edge Montego Bay facility and an extensive schedule of group fitness classes for only $5,500 per month. McNeill continued, "We've introduced this scheme in Montego Bay to make it possible for more persons to commit to their long-term health and fitness. Local companies will find very affordable fitness packages for their staff in both locations, and we believe that it is in the best interest of these firms to support the health and well-being of their employees in order to achieve higher levels of productivity and success."

She reiterated the company's commit-ment to staying on the cutting edge of fitness technology while being responsive to the special needs of its client group. She informed that Gymkhana had commenced a significant upgrade of its flagship branch at the Wyndham Kingston hotel, where it now features the latest model LeMond RevMaster studio cycles and TRX Total Resistance exercise cables, a system which has gained recognition for its utilisation in the intensive training of United States Navy Seals.

The fitness club is open 365 days for the year and offers a wide range of the latest cardio and weights equipment on its gym floor, where members are supported by certified instructors. A broad range of group fitness classes, including studio cycling, kickboxing, circuit training, sculpting, Pilates, yoga, dance, step, abs, running and boot camp, are offered and patrons now enjoy a complimentary cold towel service, Gymkhana's latest 'perk'. Sauna facilities are available in Kingston, while in Montego Bay members may enjoy massages, facials, body wraps and scrubs, including the Oh So Slender body wrap as well as reiki, reflexology and body-talk treatments.
