Shaving without the irritation

1. Shaving when the skin is dry leads to razor bumps, so first cleanse your face properly using warm hot water (if you are in a hurry splash some hot water on your face) it will soften your beard and open your pores. When you are finished, rinse with cold water to seal your pores.

2. Don't use foams, gels and products that contain agents such as benzocaine or menthol. They may give a great lather but can really dry and irritate the skin, close your pores and stiffen your beard.

3. Make sure your razor is sharp. Old, blunt blades spoil a shave. They drag the skin and do not give a clean shave.

4. For better shaving control, the razor handle should be heavier.

5. First shave in the same direction as hair growth, this helps prevent ingrown hair. Re-lather and shave slightly against the direction of hair-growth for a closer shave.

6. Short strokes are a better option than a long drag as they give a cleaner shave.

7. Do not apply too much pressure on the razor as this will cause skin burns and irritations. Glide it gently across the face.
