On October 16, Flair became 26 years old, and as one of The Gleaner's successful 'children' it's going from strength to strength. At 26, Flair still satisfies the purpose of its original intent: placing focus on issues of concern to women, and for several years now, men too.

It is exciting planning the features, articles and stories about men and women who are excelling in their fields of endeavour; following trends in fashion; showcasing your wedding day memories; tackling those relationship, fitness, health and sexual issues, and putting you in your best frame of mind to deal with your legal matters. And, more recently, we have tickled your funny or satirical bone with the warped wonder of Kelly's World, and made you mad but honestly reflective with the thought-provoking views of Singular Subjects.

As we contemplate the next 26 years, we will take them one year at time by continuing to listen to your views, as we aim to keep on being your number-one Monday tabloid.

The Lifestyle team thanks all our faithful advertisers, particularly those who reached into their cheque books to help make this issue special. These are financially challenging times, so we appreciate you. We look forward to helping you get your goods and services into the hands of consumers this Christmas season, and hope to continue serving you to the best of our ability.

Thanks to our team of expert sub-editors who make our pages come alive and advertising sales team who convince you to do business with us. A special thanks to our circulation and Internet teams who make sure we get to you regularly and on time.

And, most important, thanks to our 'mother', public relations guru, Jean Lowrie-Chin, who conceptualised the start.

Starting on this page and continuing on pages 22-25, we have put together some of the events that took place in the week of October 16, 1984. Remember when?

See how the more things change, the more they remain the same.
