Going to extremes

Though I'm pushing 30, I'm still amazed at the extremes people, men especially, will go through to achieve a certain goal.

Apparently, being a sex god is part of being a man, and while I've always been told to aim high, men who love the yarsagumba are taking that mindset and advice a little too seriously for me. The BBC reported that yarsagumba, which is the body of some moth species in the Himalayas, is revered as an immune booster, aphrodisiac and, the part the men love to hear, a treatment for impotence. Himalayan Viagra they call it. People from the Himalayan region and foreigners have been making the trek (literally), some 5,000 metres up, to get some of this super stuff.

Talk about going to great 'lengths'. I remember a man (clearly not Jamaican), who ate donkey drops and I don't mean the sugary treat we know as drops. He ate it down because it was supposed to make him better in bed. My question is, which woman in her right mind is going to sleep with a man knowing what he just ate? I don't care how well he brushed his teeth afterwards, he would not be getting any. Then when we're not searching for earthy energy boosters, we're mixing our own concoctions. I've seen weird combinations of milk-based drinks, rum, liqueurs and products like honey all blended into one grotesque-looking beverage. Any thing that looks like it's a cross between extraterrestrial cough syrup and sewer content, I refuse to drink it.

The determination (or obsession?) to be the best in the bedroom is what spurs these guys on. I wonder though what other things bring about this level of commitment. Do they attack romance in the same way? Would they go to the ends of planet Earth to find the rarest orchid or tulip for their love? There's a song in which the guy says he would catch a grenade for his girl. In fairness, he didn't say whether the pin was pulled from the grenade but we assume he would be in mortal danger. Just wonder whether he meant it or 'a jus' song mi a sing man'!

What it all comes down to is what things people consider 'important' in life. We all have certain things that ignite us, things that we would expend our last breath to see come to fruition. Problem for some of us is that the things we cling to may not be worth it. We waste our efforts.

So my word of advice, before you find yourself half-way up the mountain, is make sure you really need to be up there.
