READERS WRITE...

Published:Monday | January 24, 2011 | 12:00 AM

Here is just a sample of what readers had to say about last week's Flair stories.

Undaunted in spite of shortcomings

People with disabilities are stigmatised. I once asked a person in a wheelchair a very touchy question and was more than surprised when she provided an intelligent answer instead of an insult, which I was. KC is a charming young lady who seems highly motivated. You will create wonders just the way you are and by virtue of who you are. You have drive, you are smart and beautiful. Those are more than enough attributes to help you move upward and forward.

When people stare, try not to see a negative even though you might be tempted. Most Jamaicans know anything can happen. I went to school with a guy who was born with one arm. Everyone called him "Wanny". He answered to that more than his given name.

I love this girl Kelsi, she is a good friend and schoolmate keep your head up girl, you have a lot of friends and loved ones behind you every step you take.

The procedures mentioned in this article, are practised extensively in the far-eastern countries. Maybe this courageous woman could look in that direction for help also.

Stories like this cause me "a perfect" human specimen to look into myself. Here is someone with a handicap who has risen above it and is excelling, yet "normal" people like me are often not doing much with our lives but set out whether consciously or otherwise to make her uncomfortable. Sad!

The flip side is that a lot of times people caught staring are merely in awe of the tenacity that a handicapped person is showing and like me, are quietly introspecting and wondering where their own life is headed. Stay strong and focussed my sister and continue to inspire.

Swapping and Cougars

The sexual revolution is over, along with the hippy craze and drug abuse. It is now well beyond the decade of the '70s and the volume, variety and glamour of free love then, is now in 2011, regarded as nasty and unhealthy. A fool will lose tomorrow, reaching back for yesterday.

Beauty Blunders ...

I don't get that at all. All statements were generalised. Everywhere you go you will see one or the other, just that in some particular areas it's more dominant.
