WESTERN BUREAU:

Young Chruemar Dent has taken on the bold and mammoth task of changing the way entertainment events are executed in Montego Bay through his company Musketeer Entertainment (MuskENT) - a challenge he simply smiles at.

"I had an ambition to change the way Montego Bay viewed entertainment and I also wanted to create a spectacular event, unique in name, décor and vibe," he said.

This 27-year-old entrepreneur sees himself as a down to earth, driven, ambitious and very unorthodox in the way he thinks and executes his entertainment projects.

Dent is the mastermind behind the innovative UberBlue party, which takes place twice a year at Pier One, Montego Bay. UberBlue party in particular has a German influence because of Dent's heritage line.

"I have German ancestry, so I'm familiar with the language as I used to live there. The word 'uber' is German for 'super' but it also means 'something that nothing is better than. I decided to go with blue (my favourite colour), not as a dress code, but as the life and look of the party. Hence the name UberBlue," he stated.

Technicalities

However, planning entertainment events was not something Dent, who is also a trained teacher, first thought of doing, this as he studied industrial technology at the University of Technology.

"It was during my time at Red Bull that I found out that I loved events and I had an eye for it. I normally set up and pull down most events, so I became fascinated by the technicalities. That is where it all started for me," he remembered.

But executing his passion is not without its list of challenges; chief among them is sponsorship in bringing a dream to life.

"Well, the number-one challenge is in getting sponsors for the event. MoBay seem like the outskirt or zombie land because it's easier for a Kingston promoter to come here and bring with them all the good sponsors versus a promoter that actually resides here to acquire that same interest," Dent confessed.

"Nevertheless, in terms of promotions, I try to be as unique and as cost-effective as possible. I utilise out-of-box promotions as well as traditional methods."

Being his own boss at a time when there is limited jobs available to youths is something Dent is pleased about.

According to him: "I read and think a lot, so my mind is always firing with innovative ideas as it relates to my field of business. I enjoy working on my own time and I'm a perfectionist, so I normally get things done my way. I have never set a goal and not achieve it, so I'm good with that."
