Decline in Jamaica's CSEC performances

There has been a slight decline in Jamaica's CSEC performance this year.

At a press conference yesterday, Education Minister Andrew Holness said there had been close to a two per cent decline in results.

Mathematics grades fell by six per cent and English A declined by 2.3 per cent.

"We already know why there was a decline in mathematics as there was a change in the way in which the paper was presented, and in the syllabus, but according to CXC, some teachers apparently were teaching to past papers with the old syllabus and did not make the change immediately," he said.
