Superintendent Merrick Watson is the new chairman of the Police Officers' Association.

Watson was elected to replace Superintendent Michael James who did not seek re-election when the police officers met for their annual general meeting last week in Runaway Bay, St Ann.

Superintendent Steve McGregor was re-elected vice-chairman in an election that saw a mostly fresh slate of executive members being installed.

James had mentioned prior to the elections that he would not be seeking re-election to the post of president after service for several terms.

He had, however, indicated his willingness to continue serving on the executive and was elected.

The elections were held at the closed session of the annual conference, which also featured questions and answers with Police Commissioner Owen Ellington.
