AN ASSISTANT teacher in a St Catherine primary school is among five persons being sought by the police in connection with the beheading of two women in Lauriston, St Catherine, last month.

The teacher's aide, 20-year-old Sanjay Ducally, otherwise called Coolie Man, Indian, and Deron, of a Rio Cobre Drive address in Lauriston, St Catherine, was named by the High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force during a press conference yesterday.

The police also used the press conference to announce that four men - 29-year-old security guard Adrian Campbell, otherwise called Mad Max and Tall Man; 24-year-old labourer Fabian Smith, otherwise called Gabba; 20-year-old labourer Kemar Riley, otherwise called Blacks; and Rushane Goldson, a 20-year-old carpenter - have been charged for the beheading of 40-year-old Charmaine Cover-Rattray and her 19-year-old daughter, Joeith Lynch.

Conspiracy charges

In addition to being charged with murder, the men have been slapped with charges of conspiracy to murder, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

"The four persons who have been charged will be brought before the courts as quickly as possible," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ealan Powell.

Five other persons, including the teacher, have been named as persons of interest in connection with the crime. They are Kenrick Campbell, Jerome Williams, a man known only as Biggs or Boysie of an Old Harbour address, and another man known as Andrew and Flats of a Lauriston address.

Powell said Ramone Johnson, who was killed along Mandela Highway last week, was a chief suspect in the murder of the women.

"We are proud to say that we have made significant headway in these investigations," Powell said.

The ACP has alleged that the men charged are "part of a criminal network operating in the St Catherine area, especially in Lauriston, and they are being investigated for other crimes".

The gang in question is the notorious Clansman gang, which operates in St Catherine, which, Powell said, the police have been experiencing great difficulties in tackling.

"It is really a very large group and they operate in a very large area. They are spread out all over St Catherine," Powell said.

"They have splintered groups. You might have the main organisation, but you have little pockets all over the place, so it is really very difficult. And there is this constant recruiting, especially from strongholds," the ACP added.
