While all eyes will be glued to the epic battle on the track between the Mitsubishi Evolution 8 and Audi TT, driven by David Summerbell and Doug Gore respectively, 22-year-old Kyle Gregg is expected to rewrite the annals of Dover when the Heroes' Day race meet ensues tomorrow.

Dubbed 'Heroes of Speed', the final race meet for 2011 promises non-stop action and rivalry at the highest level as the drivers turn out for a piece of the action. Therefore, the drama and excitement will not be limited to the Thundersport II category where the big guns - Gore, Summerbell, Peter Rae, Chris Campbell, George Bayley and Gregg - will battle for supremacy.

The track will be open today for practising and qualifying sessions, while the first race gets under way tomorrow at 9 a.m.

If all goes well, then Gregg will be listed among the country's youngest motor racing champions. In addition to Dover, the former Sts Peter and Paul and Hillel High schoolboy also leads in all sections of the Jamaica Millennium Motor Club championship. "I want this championship badly. It would be another accomplishment for me this year," said Gregg, whose motor racing career began six years ago.

Other drivers

He will be challenged by the aggressive Allan Chen and Dean Corrodus in the Modified Production One Class. Other drivers of whom a lot is expected are Tedroy Burton, Peter 'Bull' Thompson with his newly sprayed Mazda RX7, Dean Shaw, George Bayley, André Anderson, Sebastien Rae, Chris Campbell, Heath Causwell and Peter Rae.

Going into 'Heroes of Speed', the Dover Champion Drivers' points standings are Kyle Gregg (102), David Summerbell (76), Doug Gore (75), Sabastien Rae (65) and André Anderson (56).

Michelle 'Girl Power' Laidlaw will be the lone female motorcyclist in the field, which Stefan Chin and Adrian Blake are expected to dominate.

President of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club, Hilary Jardine, says the day will be dedicated to Dover's founder, Alfred Chen, who perished in a helicopter crash more than 10 years ago. "To recognise this great Jamaican, the JRDC has established the 'Alfred Chen Memorial Trophy Race' to be staged every Heroes Day. This race, titled 'Thunder Sport' attracts the best crop of circuit racers, locally and within the region," said Jardine.

He stressed that the rivalry between Summerbell and Gore has reached unbelievable heights. "These two Caribbean champions intend to go all out to create history tomorrow," Jardine said.
