Davon Crump, president of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry

It is hoped that he will come through on all his promises and deliver results as it relates to tax reform, job creation, wealth creation and poverty eradication. I also hope that he will break new ground in terms of governance and economic development, as well as to continue the positive aspects of his predecessor.

Angela Haye, chair of the Hanover Parish Development Committee:

I thought it was a solid speech, it wasn't one that was filled with rhetoric. I liked the historical perspective he gave of where we're coming from. Now, he needs to give detailed information on how we are going to move from where we are to where we need to be.

Dr Martin Taylor, president of the Kiwanis Club of Montego Freeport

I think it was fairly exhaustive ... he wants things to get better. He sounds really optimistic and puritanistic.

Dr Beverley Scott, executive director, Family and Parenting Centre:

I think his speech was wide-ranging and touched on some of the key issues - economy crime, violence and education. I like how he addressed the plight of the poor, not just sympathising but suggesting concrete solutions for people to get out of their state.
