Parties ink debates
THE COUNTRY'S two main political parties have officially signed off on their commitment to hold three debates in the lead-up to the general election.
After signing the agreement, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Deputy General Secretary Ian Murray said it was important that the debates remain a part of the country's "political landscape".
"It is important that it remains a critical tool as part of the electioneering process," Murray said at the signing at The Courtleigh Hotel in St Andrew.
People's National Party (PNP) Deputy General Secretary Julian Robinson said his party welcomed the chance to share its plans and vision to take the country forward.
"The information that we intend to share will enhance the knowledge out there and allow people to make better informed decisions," he said.
After a series of negotiations, the JLP and the PNP agreed to three debates that will see Prime Minister Andrew Holness go up against Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller and Finance Minister Audley Shaw up against the PNP's Spokesman on Finance Dr Peter Phillips.
The third debate will be between a three-member team from each party.
