From the heart is where Restaurant Cocoro's star dish - the Cocoro Set - comes.

Restaurant Cocoro, the sushi specialists, lends part of its name to the dish which offers a selection of cooked and uncooked seafood.

The Cocoro set is made up of five pieces of sushi (salmon, steamed shrimp (ebi), tuna and yellow tail snapper) and eight pieces of California Roll made from avocado, crab sticks and cucumber.

Located on the premises of the Mayfair Hotel, Restaurant Cocoro has been a mainstay on the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week line-up, and this year is no exception.

The Cocoro set consists of one must-have for the restaurant.

"It features sushi, which is unique to Japanese cuisine," said Stacey-Ann Madurie, manager at the restaurant.

"It's also very simple," said Madurie, explaining, "people usually know the California Roll."

However, cognisant that not all Jamaicans are open to uncooked sushi, the dish offers a mix, allowing the semi-adventurous to venture on the wild side without going too far outside their comfort zone.

"The shrimp is also cooked, so that is good," explains Madurie, pointing out that customers are becoming more receptive to Japanese cuisine.

"Jamaicans are more accepting of sushi, especially when served with marinades such as wasabi, it gives a really nice flavour," she said.
