MPA dedicates new tug boat to the late Duke Fuller

Members of the Marine Pilots' Association (MPA), on December 4, dedicated their newly acquired tug boat to the late Duke Fuller.

The tug, which was acquired in November, has been named the Peace Keeper in Fuller's memory. Fuller used the name as his call sign as a marine pilot. It was also the name of his famous disco tech.

"As in name and nature, he was a peace maker," Roy Fuller, a member of the board of directors of MPA, said of the late Fuller. He said the decision to name the tug for the late Fuller was based on the integral role he played in establishing the association.

The new tug brings to three the number of tugs operated by the MPA. The addition of the Peace Maker will enhance the service provided by the marine pilots. "This new tug will enhance our fleet as it has more power (4,200 horse power) and is more manoeuvrable than the previous two, therefore allowing us to take on more jobs," Fuller said.

The special dedication ceremony was held at the Fersan Wharf where the Reverend Dr Carlton Dennis of the Bethel Gospel Assembly and the Reverend Conrad Reid of the Portmore Gospel Assembly said prayers for the association.

The MPA was established in 1992 and operates in Jamaica's out ports, including Montego Bay, Discovery Bay, Rio Bueno, and Portland Bight.
