Last Wednesday, Dr Omar Davies, minister of transport, works and housing, along with the managing director of National Road Operating and Constructing Company Ltd, Ivan Anderson, and Jean-François Doreau, managing director of TransJamaican Highway Limited, officially opened the westbound Old Harbour on ramp in a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new on ramp allows commuters from surrounding areas to access the highway and travel to May Pen and beyond quickly and safely.

REDUCING TRAVEL TIME

Residents of Old Harbour and its environs will now have the opportunity to reduce travel time, while gaining access to more professional, educational and leisure activities with greater ease. Travel to the nearby town of May Pen will be more convenient, putting additional social amenities within reach, including the May Pen Hospital and the Glenmuir and May Pen high schools.

The on ramp, which was formerly an entrance road used by emergency vehicles to access the highway, was upgraded by local subcontractors and cost approximately US$100,000, inclusive of solar-powered lighting. The on ramp was made suitable for use by motorists under the commission of TransJamaican Highway Limited and JIO, the developer and operator of Highway 2000 East-West.
