The thunderous roar of expensive, high-powered engines will temporarily disrupt the usual peace and tranquility of the bauxite township of Kirkvine, Manchester, today. Some of the country's top motor sport celebrities are slated to parade their skills at the Kirkvine Sports Club, in aid of charity.

"The proceeds of the event will go to several primary schools in the community and, most of all, to assist with the medical expense of a four-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour," organiser of the event, Headley Frater, told Automotives on Thursday.

Set to start at 8 a.m., the event has been dubbed 'Bring It On'. "Bring it on means bring your car, your bike, bicycle and challenge. Bring out your family. Just bring it on," Frater explained.

Among today's stellar attractions will be the challenge of veteran circuit racer, Peter 'Zoom Zoom' Rae, who has parked his RX7 Mazda and will use his Honda CR-450 F motorcycle to take on the car with the fastest time.

"Racing against the clock, Rae will attempt to erase the time set by the fastest car over a quarter-mile distance," said Frater, who is expecting at least 5,000 patrons, based on the marketing strategy used to promote the event.

Also in action will be the former Junior Minister, Othneil Lawrence. Doug Gore is also expected to grace the Kirkvine Sports Club with his presence.

"I was supposed to do a demo with the Audi Quattro, but that will not be possible again. I will be there, but I am still unsure if I will be in action," Gore said on Thursday.

Still, Gore gave the assurance that Montego Bay will be represented by two stalwarts, Gary Williams of Dover Raceway fame, and the dexterity champion, Maurice Whittingham. Drag racer Seymour Anderson of Ocho Rios will also be taking it to his rivals.

Rae is up to any challenge. "I am hoping to stay as far as possible from the asphalt," Rae said jokingly.

The festivities, which are scheduled to climax at midnight, will have bumper cars for children and a fashion show. It promises to end on a high note with a stage show.

Frater said several other top motor racing drivers are expected at Kirkvine today, but it has not been confirmed if they will be taking part in the action.
