In late July, ATL Automotive announced its certified pre-owned vehicle service. This enables the company to provide a used-car dealership service of sorts, facilitating the resale of vehicles originally bought new from ATL Automotive.

The service came in effect last Monday.

"What we're doing now is bringing in our ATL customers' cars and having them go through our service department so that we can certify the vehicle and sell them to the public. What we wanted to do is make history. We wanted to be the first new car/used car dealer to offer certified cars to Jamaica," said Ian Lyn, general manager of ATL Automotives' Certified Pre-Owned Car Dealership.

It may be new to Jamaica, but established elsewhere.

International standards

"Certification is something that is in Europe and America. Basically what it is, is that these are vehicles that have gone through a 154-point inspection to check the car from top to bottom - and these are cars that we have a history on. They have to be serviced with us for a minimum of two years, so that we have the full history on them," Lyn continued.

Lyn pointed out that it was the intention of himself and CEO of the Sandals/ATL Group, Adam Stewart, to create a system with which individuals can buy used or pre-owned cars and not have any issues.

"Our first mission is to offer only to ATL customers a chance to sell their vehicles and to give Jamaicans a chance to buy a certified vehicle for pretty much the same price they would spend at a used-car dealership. A full history goes with the car," Lyn said.

By offering this service, Lyn is hoping that ATL Automotive's new car sales will be given a boost, as well as inroads will be made into the used-car market.

The new ATL Automotive pre-owned car hub is at 149 - 167 Hagley Park Road in Kingston. In western Jamaica, the ATL Automotive Bogue City Centre office in Montego Bay, St James, will be the site for the operation, to be opened in December.
