On Thursday, November 14, Grennell's Driving School will stage its third annual 'On The Road, On The Job' safety workshop.

It is intended to provide companies and individuals with a wide range of practical environmental, health, safety and financial solutions.

Managing director of Grennell's Driving School, Alphonso Grennell, has encouraged safety and security personnel, transport authority, petroleum companies, fleet owners and managers, personnel in risk management, and others, to attend.

The expo, which will be held at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., under the theme 'Building a Business Case for Safety', will engage attendees in numerous topics.

Among the issues to be covered are road crashes and their impact on motor-vehicle insurance costs, road safety and its benefits to Jamaica, road crashes and their impact on the Jamaican economy and fleet-management solutions.

Persons will be brought in from the United States to address various issues.

"What presenters will be looking at is how to put measures in place so that vehicles are checked regularly.

"They are going to look at pre- and post-trips inspection of motor vehicles, especially of large vehicles but also individual vehicles.

"They are also going to look at the insuring of the fleet, its maintenance, how important is preventative maintenance," Grennell said.

"One guy from AMECO will be looking at the selection of vehicles for your fleet-based on your operation," he noted.

PUBLIC FORUM

The general public will have a chance to have a say.

"One of the things that will make this workshop so interesting is that we're going to have a public forum, lasting for an hour and forty-five minutes.

"This will give attendees the opportunity to ask about motor vehicle as well as fleet maintenance, insurance benefits, among other things. There will be an interesting panel put together for this," Grennell added.

He explained that plans are being examined to have the workshop, which is normally one day, to be held over two days in 2014.

"Next year we're likely to go over two days, because we're going to look at sectionalised presentations. We're going to be divided into groups, because everybody may not want to hear the same thing, so we're going to get specialised speakers to look at various aspects," Grennell explained.
