Farewell and Welcome

On Wednesday evening, Scotiabank Jamaica used its CEO Cocktail Reception held at the Gardens of The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, to say farewell to former President and CEO Bruce Bowen and welcome Jacqueline Sharp as his successor. The red and white decor illuminated the space while Sharp and Bowen welcomed and said goodbye, respectively, to their many guests.
In her very short introduction, Sharp complimented Bowen as a leader calling him, "the guiding light for the past five years."
There was a short video presentation of Bowen's journey, with testimonials from those who have worked with him lauding his work ethic and drive.
When it was Bowen's turn to speak, he was humbled by the praises. He kept it short, giving thanks to those who had supported him - co workers and customers. He noted that things needed to change for the country's economy to grow. "If we can only stop arguing and align and do what is right for this country first," Bowen said, explaining what Jamaica needed to do to grow its economy.
Though leaving Jamaica, Bowen will not be leaving Scotiabank as he takes up the position of senior vice-president of the Caribbean Region, International Banking in Canada.
He praised Sharp who has been at the organisation since 1997, saying he believes she has what it takes to keep Scotia on the right track.
Sharp, in closing, gave her "thank you" for her appointment and said she looks forward to filling Bowen's very large shoes.
As the season for giving approaches, guests did not leave empty- handed. They were presented with a potted ackee, cherry or apple tree.
