Murdered 8-y-o laid to rest in St Thomas
Jamaica Teachers' Association President Dr Mark Nicely is lamenting what he said was the increasing number of children being murdered in Jamaica.
Addressing yesterday's funeral for eight-year-old Ceelena Headman, whose body was found in Top Hill, St Thomas, on February 3 with the hands bound and throat slashed, Nicely called for all sectors in the society to wake up to a serious issue that would see the future of Jamaica destroyed.
"In 2013, 41 students were murdered; in January four, and if we multiply that by 12; we see that we are running ahead of last year," reasoned Nicely. "We are killing our children; our future is dying. We are in a sad state."
Headman's funeral took place at the Seaforth High School before the coffin was taken on a final journey to the family burial ground.
