COPA reception at Rose Hall
Mark Titus, Gleaner Writer
The Rose Hall Great House in Montego Bay, former home of the legendary Annie Palmer, was the perfect setting for an evening of fun and relaxation, as delegates attending the 27th meeting of the executive committee of the Confederation of Parliaments of the Americas (COPA) and the Network of Women Parliamentarians of the Americas, were fêted Jamaican style.
Labelled Jamaica Night, the simple-yet-elegant affair showcased Jamaican food, music and culture, while entertainment was provided by the Montego Bay Boys and Girls' Club band who delivered an entertaining set.
Host
Hosted by Speaker of the House of Representatives Michael Peart, the reception was even more enthralling because of the mystery and intimacy associated with the property. Guests could not resist the temptation to take a tour of the infamous mansion.
It was the first time Jamaica was hosting the annual COPA meetings, whose membership includes representatives from Belize, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
