'Moore' scholarships for students

Third-year students at the Jamaica German Automotive School (JAGAS) now have a chance for their tuition to be paid annually, as well as access six months' work experience in the automotive industry through KIA Motors Jamaica.

The new-car dealership launched its Charles Alexander Moore Scholarship and Fast Track Internship Programme on Tuesday.

The award, which is made available to potential scholarship winners on the recommendation of JAGAS' scholarship board, forms part of KIA Motors' drive to fulfil its corporate social responsibility. It is also intended to honour the life and legacy of His Excellency Dr Charles Alexander Moore, who dedicated 57 years of service to the ground-transportation sector in Jamaica.

Moore's words of advice

Dr Moore, father of KIA Jamaica's CEO; and managing director, Dwight Moore, were among several guests at the scholarship launch ceremony, held at the dealership's Chelsea Avenue, St Andrew headquarters. The senior Moore's words of advice resonated well with the guests, many of whom applauded heartily as he spoke.

He reminded students and prospective scholarship awardees to "hold firmly to good integrity as you pursue your education with ambition and focus". Dr Moore also congratulated his son on his leadership of KIA Motors Jamaica.

The launch ceremony, hosted by marketing and sales executive with KIA Motors Jamaica, Daren Miller, was held under the theme, 'Breaking Barriers to Professional Advancement, Engineering Greatness for Life's Worst Roads'. It was attended by students and teachers of several technical high schools, as well as members of the private and public sectors.

KIA Motors Jamaica was established in 2004.
