BLP call for election recount

An election court will convene today as a defeated candidate of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) seeks a recount of the ballots cast in the constituency he contested in the January 15 general election.

The BLP’s Rommel Marshall is challenging the results in the St. Michael West constituency, which showed him being defeated by first time Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate, James Paul by 25 votes.

Marshall claims that the returning officer, Leonard Walters, denied his request for a recount on the night of the general election.

The DLP won 20 of the 30 seats in the election ending the BLP’s 13 years as the government.
