Nine people convicted for their involvement in suicide bombings in Casablanca have escaped from a prison in Morocco.

According to officials, the prisoners tunneled their way out of the facility yesterday.

Most of the nine men were reportedly serving life sentences.

45 people including 12 bombers were killed in the 2003 attack.

It is reported that the prisoners left messages on the prison wall, stating that they had suffered injustice and were escaping because they saw no other solution to their woes.

The justice ministry said every effort is being made to find out how the prisoners escaped.
