The President of the United States George W Bush has offered $770 million in international food aid to help ease the effects of rising food prices.

The US President said he would be asking Congress to approve his request.

The White House has come under intense pressure to step in as high food and petrol prices have been affecting many poor families worldwide.

The global crisis has sparked rioting in several developing countries, with the threat of worse to come.

Two weeks ago, the US President released $200 million for emergency food aid.

The United Nation warned that high prices are expected to continue despite increased production.
