A manhunt is said to be underway in Kenya for an al-Qaida operative.

Fazul Abdullah Mohammed is wanted for the attacks on the United States embassies in Kenya and Tanzania 10 years ago.

He allegedly evaded a police raid over the weekend in the coastal town of Malindi, where friends were reportedly hiding him.

Earlier this year Mohammed, who is from the Comoros Islands, reportedly survived a US missile attack on a hideout in Somalia.

The United States offered a reward of up to US$5 million for his arrest.

The police are interrogating three members of a family, who were hosting him in Malindi.

More than 250 people were killed during the bomb attack on the US embassy 10 years ago, which was planned by Mohammed.
