Aafia Siddiqui, 36, an ex-student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology faces charges of trying to kill US agents.

The woman was transferred to the US from Afghanistan for trial.

The US military said Siddiqui was arrested in Afghanistan last month.

However, her family and rights groups said she has spent the last five years in jails secretly run by the US.

US authorities said Siddiqui was married to a nephew of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the man accused of masterminding the 9/11 attacks.
