Pakistan\'s electoral commission is due to meet to decide whether to put off the elections planned for January 8.
The violent unrest, which has followed Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto’s death, has put the election date in doubt.
Widower, Asif Ali Zardari, said the Pakistan People\'s Party (PPP) would contest the poll.
He and his son, Bilawal, will take over the leadership of the party.
The other main opposition party, led by Nawaz Sharif, has indicated that it will drop plans to boycott the election.
