Mitchell denies US citizenship

The new Grenada government said it has been trying to ascertain the citizenship status of opposition leader Dr. Keith Mitchell.



The government said it has evidence that Dr. Mitchell is a US citizen.



However, the opposition leader has denied the claims.



The Attorney General’s office said it has correspondence from the US Justice Department confirming that Dr. Mitchell is a US citizen.



According to the government, the document shows that Dr. Mitchell attained American citizenship in January 1984.



Dr. Mitchell is insisting that he no longer holds US citizenship.
