Melamine scandal widens

Chinese officials are reporting that the toxic chemical melamine is now being added to animal feed.



Four infants died in China last month after the chemical was found in milk.



Many others were also injured.



Officials now fear that melamine contamination could be widespread throughout the food chain.



The chemical was reportedly detected in Chine



Agriculture officials speculate that melamine was included in the feed given to hens.



Meanwhile, the feed industry has admitted to using the chemical to reduce production costs, while maintaining the protein count for quality inspections.
