Police in Guyana had to use tear gas to break up a demonstration yesterday as residents protested against the lack of proper security.

The protestors from the East Coast Demerara community, set fire to public bridges and old cars. They also blocked the main road in the area.

Scores of schoolchildren had to be taken to hospital, after police reportedly sprayed tear gas near a private school.

The residents took to the street after gunmen killed 11 people on Saturday.

Police said one of the country’s Most Wanted, Rondel \'Fine Man\' Rawlins was involved in the incident.

Two villagers were detained during the protest.
