A Bill calling for Caribbean nationals to have their own origins category on the US Census form has been introduced in the House of Representatives.

The Bill, introduced by congresswoman Yvette Clarke, calls for the inclusion of a checkbox or similar option, so that respondents may indicate Caribbean extraction or descent.

The campaign group, Carib ID, seeks to get Caribbean nationals accurately counted in the 2010 census.

Congresswoman Clarke, who is the daughter of Caribbean immigrants, says she sees the measure as a great accomplishment.
