Brazil focuses on development in Haiti

Brazil says it has no plans to withdraw its troops from Haiti, despite military cutbacks.



Brazil currently has 1,300 soldiers in Port-au-Prince.



The South American country is planning to switch its focus to development, as security improves in the troubled country.



Brazil recently replaced some soldiers with 100 engineers to increase the size of its engineering corps to 250.



The engineers are planning a new hydroelectric dam on the Artibonite River, the longest in Haiti.



When constructed, the dam could provide up to 40 megawatts of electricity to residents.
