Grenada’s main opposition, the New National Party (NNP) is decrying a new baggage policy announced by regional carrier Air Jamaica for its flights between New York and Grenada.

The Keith Mitchell-led NNP, which lost the Government in the elections 10 months ago, wants the ruling national Democratic Congress to take up the issue with Air Jamaica officials.

The NNP said the new policy has implications for the nation’s tourism industry as popular travel magazines and newspapers have been publishing reports about the new policy.

The airline’s new policy, which was scheduled to go into effect on May 11 allows passengers traveling economy class to check one bag free of charge and pay US$25 for a second bag.

Under the new arrangement, executive class passengers are allowed to check two bags free of charge, with a US$25 fee for a third checked bag.
