NOTE-WORTHY: More 'life' needed, NWC

Published:Saturday | February 20, 2010 | 12:00 AM

If indeed 'water is life' then the NWC is responsible for depriving thousands of Jamaicans of their 'life'. To make a bad situation worse, the NWC is NOT living up to its end of the bargain in relation to the 'lifeline' which they have thrown to their 'valued' customers.

The much-publicised water-restriction schedules for various communities throughout Kingston and St Andrew have been as accurate as, say, Stevie Wonder giving an eyewitness account of a car accident. In my book, the NWC now stands for 'No Water Consistently'!

Saluting CISOCA team in May Pen

I am a Jamaican who has lived and worked in May Pen, Clarendon, for over two years. My job has frequently brought me in contact with members of the police force. I am not connected to law enforcement nor the legal profession. I have met some very dedicated, honest and patriotic police officers in the parish who work under difficult circumstances.

There are glaring deficiencies in our legal system but at the same time we should acknowledge those who deserve commendation.

Constant negative comments will only beget more negative behaviour. We need to find ways to help the police become better professionals.

To all the socially responsible and caring members of the force, especially those working at the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) unit in May Pen, I salute you, keep up the good work.

DECORUM, PLEASE!

Please allow me to use this medium to commend and applaud the police officers who are brave enough and have some sense of propriety to initiate a drive to arrest men engaging in the contemptible practice of exposing their underwear in public for indecent exposure.

This shows that not all members of the force are corrupt, and that there are still those of us who yearn for some sort of decency to be restored in our society. Why should we just sit back and watch the degradation of society and accept the inherent decline in morals and values?

In any standard dictionary the word 'under' is defined as 'below', 'covered', 'lower', etc. The appropriate use of underwear is therefore obvious. It is not to be seen as in regular garments worn on the outside.
