Bolt had no problem with new guideline

Back in 2009, Usain Bolt gave his support to an impending new false-start rule which yesterday proved to be the impediment which, at least for the time being, has robbed him of legendary status in track and field.

In August 2009, Bolt, who had just a year earlier been crowned World and Olympic 100- and 200-metre champion and world record holder, said he did not have a problem with the change in the rule.

"For me, I have no problem, I never false-started yet," the Jamaican said then.

"It will be better for the sport. It will be a problem for some people but not for me."

Bolt, who was yesterday attempting to defend his 100-metre world title, false-started in the final of the marquee event and was immediately disqualified under the rule.
