Last Monday, Silver Star Motors, a member of the Stewart's Automotive Group, launched their 2014 E-Class Mercedes-Benz line. Three vehicles were put on display - the E200, E300 and the E-Class Coupe - at their South Camp Road, Kingston, headquarters.

For the new model year, the vehicles' looks have been completely revolutionised, showing a subtle break with past versions and packaging futuristic technology. The E200 has adapted an elegant look while the E300 goes for the avant-garde. The elegant specification of the E-Class sports the classic look, with the famed star insignia firmly planted on the bonnet. On the other hand, the E300's avant-garde styling has the star nested at the centre of the grille. When lowered, the coupé's window provides an unimpeded view for the vehicle's occupants, as there is no blocking frame.

Other refinements are the technology features included under the intelligent drive banner. One feature allows the vehicle to detect pedestrians and initiate the autonomous braking system. Their lane-keeping assist can detect when the adjacent lane is not clear, possible obstacles including oncoming traffic, overtaking vehicles and crash barriers.

The E-Class Mercedes-Benz line is being touted as the individual's business partner for the road. The E200 will retail for approximately $9 million, while the E300 is going for more than $10 million. The coupe also goes for over $10 million.

Upgraded showroom

Even as it rolls out the new Mercedes-Benz line, Silver Star Motors is upgrading its South Camp Road showroom, with completion scheduled for December. Jacqueline Sangster, general manager of Silver Star Motors, said, "We are taking the old structure that is here and we're updating it. Where the A-Class billboard is by Deanery Road will be its entrance for our customers, which will enable their service needs to be met. We will have a brand new service centre with our parts all in one location. We will have a stunning first-world showroom".

She is sure that the new facility will be appreciated by many. "Mercedes-Benz is appealing to Jamaicans because of the variety that we have to offer them. Also, Mercedes-Benz has a very sound and proven track record with regards to safety and Jamaicans really value that with the way that our roads are, and some of the drivers we have to contend with," Sangster said.
