Residents of West Kingston took to the streets of the community this afternoon to protest the transfer of  top cop for the division Senior Superintendent of Police, Steve McGregor.

McGregor is set to be transferred to St James next month to help combat crime in that parish.

Traffic came to a standstill along the section of Spanish Town Road near the Coronation Market this afternoon, as the residents expressed anger at the senior policeman’s transfer.

They urged the Commissioner of Police, Dr Carl Williams and National Security Minister, Peter Bunting to reconsider the decision.

The residents are also claiming that persons would likely die during the time it would take for a new policeman to get acquainted with the community.

“Mr McGregor has shown his competence in West Kingston. He has a proven track record of getting down to the level of the citizens in dealing with problems arising," said resident of the community, Jermaine Cowey.

McGregor who visited the residents urged them to remain calm as he plans to meet with the Police Commissioner tomorrow.

He says he will address the community following his meeting.
