Number portability allows persons to switch their networks but keep their telephone numbers.

Technology Minister, Phillip Paulwell says in two days over 200 Jamaican consumers have switched their phone networks through number portability.

Number portability allows persons to switch their networks but keep their telephone numbers.

Telephone companies are also barred from trying to convince customers not to change providers.

Some 190 people have switched from Digicel to LIME and 14 from LIME to Digicel.

Paulwell said the figure is expected to rise as public education continues.

Both fixed line and mobile phone customers can benefit under the number portability system.
