Activities are currently at a standstill at the Metcalfe Street Secure Juvenile Centre, as correctional officers attached to the facility are demanding that concerns over their safety be addressed.

The correctional officers became restive following a shooting incident last night which resulted in the staff bus being damaged.

The incident occurred around 8 o’clock in Hannah Town, near the site where a police station was destroyed by thugs  in 2010.

Fortunately, the bus which was heading to pick up correctional officers for the night shift had only two occupants along with the driver.

The windscreen of the bus was damaged while other bullets are said to have passed through the open windows when the vehicle got caught in the middle of crossfire.

As a result of last night’s incident, parents, who travelled from as far as St Mary and have been at the facility since 8:30 this morning, have not been allowed to visit their children.

No classes have been held at the facility today with only those youngsters who have court to attend being allowed to leave their dorms.
