As we celebrate fathers today, we take a look at a space in the home designed just for men — a 'man cave'.
Consider it a personal retreat or sanctuary inside the home with nearly everything a man needs. It's a space where he can relax and do just about whatever he wants - watch his favourite TV show or sporting event, indulge in his favourite hobby or hang out with his friends.
A man cave doesn't need to be a large space. According to our friends at Spaces: “It just needs to be a room the man of the home can call his own.”
Essentials
The decor of a man cave will be largely determined by his hobbies or interests. However, there are some essentials that all man caves should have. A comfortable sofa, a big-screen TV and a beverage station/bar - to name a few. “The decor of the man cave is dependent on his personality and leisure needs. There is no one decorative solution. He may need it to be a space conducive to entertaining friends with surround sound, for video games, or any other recreational need.”
While this is a very popular trend overseas, it is relatively new in Jamaica. Still, there has been an increase in interest for rooms to be dedicated for this purpose.
