Maldon surprise Cornwall

Maldon High pulled off a big upset in ISSA/FLOW Zone A daCosta Cup action yesterday when they defeated high riding defending champions Cornwall College 3-1.

Dr Dean Weatherly, the Cornwall coach, told The Gleaner last week he wanted to maintain their 100 per cent win record in daCosta Cup but yesterday his team was beaten by a determined Maldon aggregation.

Ronaldo Clarke of Maldon put Cornwall under pressure from as early the 26th minute before Andaine Burnett made it 2-0 in the 56th minute.

The inform Shavon McDonald reduced the deficit in the 74th minute but Tajah Williams sealed the win for Maldon in the 81st.

In another game Dinthill's national representative and leading goal scorer, Kaheem Parris, moved to ten goals in four games with a second consecutive hat-trick as his team thrashed home team Charlemont 8-0 in their Zone K match. He was supported by Andre Fletcher who bagged two, Michael Edwards, Ky-mani Campbell and Romario Robinson with a goal each.

In Zone C, Spot Valley continued their winning run with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Herbert Morrison. Troy High picked up their first ever point in the daCosta Cup with a 1-1 draw against Christiana High in Zone G.

Meanwhile Seaforth High, on 12 points, will look to extend their winning streak in Zone O when they face Morant Bay High at 3:30 p.m. today.

Coach Jermain Thompson says Seaforth are on a mission to win all 10 games in the first round and see today's game as a stepping stone to achieving this against strong opposition.

Coach Thompson said Morant Bay (10 points) are a strong team that has the ability to hurt them but he has called on his boys to stay focused and treat the game as a final.

"This is a team that is playing well but they are conceding goals so I want my attacking core to make use of the goalscoring opportunities."

Coach of Morant Bay High, Darian Lard, said he will be going for maximum three points in today's game.

"We have three matches at home this week and our intention is to get maximum points from all three matches," Lard stated.

On Tuesday Morant Bay clipped St Thomas Technical 2-1.
