Car marts causing headaches in Mandeville
The over 50 car marts in and around the town Mandeville, Manchester, are causing concern for stakeholders and residents of the parish.
President of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Garfield Green, says the car marts are both formal and informal.
He says residents of Manchester are annoyed at the growing number of these businesses which he says are taking over parking spaces at select plazas and even major driveways.
Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell says these businesses have become the biggest problem for the town in recent years.
He pointed out Caledonia Road and the roundabout at Winston Jones Highway among the problem areas.
Speaking at a recent business meeting the Mayor said he has contacted NWA, which is responsible for some of the roadways on which the car marts are located, but no favorable response has been received.
Mayor Mitchell says a team of compliance officers at the municipal corporation is currently doing a survey on the car marts in the town.
He says the team is checking on issues such as registration and tax payment to see whether any of these car marts can be prosecuted.
