After a bright first half and a gritty second-half display, Waterhouse coach Marcel Gayle believes his team’s game is coming together at the right time.

Waterhouse defeated Molynes United 1-0 on Keithy Simpson’s ninth-minute penalty to move back within two points of leaders Dunbeholden with six rounds to go.

Gayle was pleased with how team saw out the match.

“We started brightly and that is the start we have been looking for all season and I think our game is coming together at the right time, at the back end of the season,” he said.

“We had a wonderful game and with a little more luck in front of the goal, we could have had more goals.

“So kudos to the guys, I think they played well and managed the game very well and closing the gap to two points is very important at this stage. We just want to stay healthy and stay as close as possible,” he added.

Waterhouse got off to a blistering start and just nine minutes into the game, they were awarded a penalty when an attacker was fouled in the area.

Simpson fired home the spot kick to give Waterhouse the early advantage.

Denardo Thomas then had a shot tipped, before setting up Simpson, who fired over bar from six yards.

Thorn Simpson had a chance late in the half for Molynes but could not convert.

After the break Waterhouse kept creating openings and leading scorer, Cardel Benbow, a 64th-minute substitute, could have had a hat-trick.

He first lifted an easy chance over an empty goal from 12 yards, before having an effort blocked at point-blank range.

Then late in the match, he headed a free kick wide from eight yards.

Nicholas Nelson came close for Molynes with a low shot that was well saved, while Milton Brooks headed a great chance over in added time.

Molynes coach Garnet Lawrence said internal issues left the team morale very low and they just never turned up for the game.

“You could see the fear they (Waterhouse) had for us but we just did not create any chances to trouble them,” he said.

Waterhouse are now second on 36 points, two adrift of Dunbeholden and five ahead of Arnett Gardens.

Molynes stay second from bottom on goal difference with 14 points.
