The ballroom of Manhattan’s prestigious Plaza Hotel was filled to capacity as enthusiastic donors and supporters gathered for the 41st staging of the Hummingbird Gala and After Party Soirée hosted by American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) last Friday. Danny Wegman of Wegman’s Food Market and his wife, Jamaican social entrepreneur Paula Kerr Jarrett, recipients of this year’s International Humanitarian Award, had made their mark on the Big Apple, receiving full support from their friends. Other honourees, Sherrese Clarke Soares from HarbourView Equity and Janice Hart from Yale New Haven Hospital, added to the success of the event, resulting in the AFJ pulling in thousands of US dollars in pledges. Something Extra brings the vibrancy all the way from New York City.
