Jamaica’s electric vehicle landscape has seen significant growth, partly driven by private-sector investments like Evergo, committed to providing reliable charging infrastructure, and the Government’s recent duty break on imported electric vehicles.

Likewise, Porsche has remained steadfast in its advancement of EV technology, first introducing plug-in e-hybrid technology in the Cayenne e-hybrid and Panamera 4S e-hybrid and debuting the brand’s first all-electric model, the Taycan, locally in 2023 under the slogan Soul Electrified.

Uché McLean, head of business, Porsche Jamaica, highlighted the environmental benefits and enhanced customer experience the partnership with Evergo offers.

“We’re pleased to reinforce our commitment to a greener environment by reducing emissions along with offering greater charging solutions to customers. While the Taycan can travel more than 400km on a single charge, which is comfortably from Kingston to Montego Bay with charge to spare, customers will be able to continue enjoying the Porsche Passion even further thanks to these Porsche Destination Chargers throughout Jamaica,” stated McLean.

Both Porsche and Evergo prioritise a user-friendly experience. The Evergo app allows drivers to locate stations, check availability, reserve charges, and initiate charging sessions on site or remotely. Porsche offers customers comprehensive services and products, including complimentary home charging station installation and Porsche x Evergo RFID cards for contactless charging once purchased from them.

McLean added that this ‘strategic’ step demonstrates both companies‘ continued advancement to the progress and push for e-mobility.

“Having successfully launched the first all-electric Porsche Taycan last year, it’s another electrifying year ahead for Porsche Jamaica as we’ll be launching the first all-electric SUV, the all-electric Macan, the new all-electric Taycan along with the all-new Panamera 4S E-Hybrid,“ he continued.

The exclusive partnership will see customers who purchase the all-electric Taycan receive one year, or the equivalent of 10,000km, of free charging on Evergo charging stations island-wide. For the plug-in hybrid models, Panamera or Cayenne, customers will enjoy one year, or up to 4,000km, free charging.

Evergo’s President & CEO, Dr Wayne McKenzie, OD, stated, “This alliance aligns perfectly with Evergo’s mission to create a sustainable future through innovative and accessible electric vehicle solutions”.

“We are proud to partner with a forward-thinking brand like Porsche to empower more Jamaicans to experience electric mobility’s environmental and economic benefits.

“Our expanding network ensures that EV drivers can confidently explore the island, and we remain committed to reaching 100 charging stations by the end of 2024,” McKenzie further stated.

Since its inception in 2021, Evergo has commissioned 68 charging stations across the island, conveniently placed at shopping centres, supermarkets, and restaurants. These stations give drivers confidence and ensure that they reach their destination, wherever it may be, without experiencing range anxiety.

Four of their locations were commissioned for the 2023 Porsche Evergo Destination Chargers – Murray’s Fish and Jerk Hut in Clarendon, Bayshore Plaza in Portland, LFA Country Store in Ocho Rios, St Ann, and JamGas Convenience Store in Mandeville.

An additional five locations have been commissioned for 2024: Boardwalk Shopping Village in Negril, Westmoreland, Nola’s Dining in Luana, St Elizabeth, Holywell Park in the Blue Mountains; Pier 1 Restaurant in Montego Bay, St James, and the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
