Beryl upgraded to powerful Category 5 Hurricane
The United States' National Hurricane Center has upgraded Beryl to a Category 5 Hurricane, the highest level. It means that catastrophic damage is likely.
Beryl, currently packing winds of 160 mph, is forecast to impact Jamaica on
Wednesday.
The Government placed Jamaica under a Hurricane Warning earlier today.
A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area. A warning is typically issued 36 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical-storm-force winds, conditions that make outside preparations difficult or dangerous.
