No draconian measures
The Editor, Sir:
To introduce any draconian measures to fight crime at this stage could prove fatal to our society. Giving our security forces excessive powers is not good because they have not demonstrated the ability to be responsible with the power that they already have. We would be feeding another monster that we just might not be able to tame in the future.
The minister of national security would be walking down the wrong road with any action like this. The reality is that our politicians need to own up to the current situation and with that should take the full responsibility of seeing to it that the situation of gangs in this county is fully defused without any draconian measures.
Fuelling the situation
As a matter of fact, some of the persons who have sworn to protect and keep the peace are involved in some of these gangs and giving them this type of power would only add fuel to the situation.
The reality is that Jamaica is a very beautiful island and we need to educate out people of the vital importance to value what we have and keep the peace and harmony.
Yes we need a 'One Love' Jamaica ... .
