Blake tops 100m, PBs for Francis, Taylor
Yohan Blake, running in his first competitive 100 metres of the season, clocked 10.21 seconds at the All Comers meet at the National Stadium on Saturday evening.
The 2011 World Champion was fastest overall ahead of Sheldon Mitchell (10.22) and Bernardo Brady of the University of the West Indies, 10.25.
Javon Francis of Akan Track Club and Calabar High's Christopher Taylor clocked personal best times in the 400 metres.
The Michael Clarke-coached Francis stopped the clock at a personal best 44.50 seconds to finish ahead of Rusheen McDonald who also ran a career best 44.60.
Despite easing up in the last 20 metres of his heat, Taylor still clocked a personal best 45.55 for the third-fastest time of the day among all athletes.
"I am surprised with running so fast as I am not yet at 100 per cent, said a modest Taylor.
Among the females, the fast-rising Elaine Thompson of the University of Technology (UTech) maintained her winning form. Competing in a negative wind of 3.2 metres per second, Thompson easily won her 200 metres heat in 23.04 seconds to top the women's half lap event. G.C. Foster College's Audra Segree captured her heat in 24.07 in a negative 4.0 metres per second wind to finish second overall. Jodean Williams of UTech was third overall with 24.29.
MVP's Natasha Morrison was best among the women in the 100 metres. She crossed the line in 11.20 to get the better of UTech's Chanice Bonner (11.53), the same time registered by Racers Track Club's Keneisha Stephens for third.
